HOW IT STARTED
Flatcrown Leather is more than just a leather goods company—it’s the realization of a lifelong friendship, a shared passion for wildlife, and a commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship.
Meet Zuva Donduro and Alex Fletcher, childhood friends since the first grade. Alex was born in South Africa and grew up in Mozambique, while Zuva was born in Mozambique and moved to Boise, Idaho, in 2013. Growing up, they spent countless hours exploring iconic safaris and wildlife parks like Kruger National Park, Gorongosa National Park, and Tshukudu Game Lodge. These adventures fueled their imaginations and deepened their love for wildlife—a passion that remained strong even as life took them down different paths.
In 2018, Alex gifted Zuva a hand-stitched leather wallet he had crafted—a wallet Zuva still uses to this day. Its quality and timeless design planted the seed for what would become Flatcrown. By 2024, they transformed this shared vision into reality: a business dedicated to creating handcrafted leather wallets that blend African craftsmanship with purpose.
But Flatcrown is about more than just making wallets—it’s about building a bridge between Mozambique and the world. Our wallets are ethically sourced and handcrafted in Mozambique, creating meaningful job opportunities for local artisans. Meanwhile, our headquarters in Boise, Idaho, serves as the hub for delivering these beautifully crafted wallets to customers worldwide.
Flatcrown stands for something bigger. That’s why we commit 5% of our sales revenue to wildlife conservation, with a special focus on Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. This incredible park represents hope and renewal. To Zuva’s surprise, Boise has a long-standing conservation-focused relationship with Gorongosa. In fact, an entire section of Zoo Boise is dedicated to its wildlife—a connection that feels like fate, bringing together our love for nature, our African roots, and our entrepreneurial spirit.
Flatcrown is our way of giving back—to the wildlife that inspired us, to the communities of Mozambique, and to a shared vision of sustainability.

Hand stitched
Hand stitching is stronger and more reliable than machine stitching. Using a saddle stitch, each thread is independent, so even if one breaks, the seam holds. It’s time-intensive, but the durability is unmatched.

full grain leather
We use full grain leather because it’s durable, ages beautifully, and develops a unique patina over time. Unlike lower-quality leathers, top grain retains its natural grain, which improves with use, giving your wallet more character as it ages. It’s a choice for those who value longevity and timeless style.

wildlife conservation
At Flatcrown Leather, we craft goods inspired by Mozambique’s rugged beauty. 5% of every sale supports wildlife conservation and the rangers who protect it. Your purchase helps preserve the natural world while investing in quality craftsmanship and lasting impact.
